Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our Just Giving memorial page.

Our dad, Col Ian Cartwright, "Biffo" had a long and successful army career.

He enlisted in1951 into the Lancashire Fusiliers and subsequently served with the SAS and later the Royal Regimental Fusiliers all round the world.

He was awarded the General Service medal with bar for Malaya and South Arabia and the General Service medal for Northern Ireland and the Consolidated Campaign Service Medal for over 3 years campaigning and was twice mentioned in dispatches.

He was appointed OBE in 1974 and then advanced to CBE in 1983.

He loved soldiering and the men and the women with whom he served. He truly enjoyed the adventure and comradery with those under his command but also felt a great responsibility for their physical and mental health which could be challenged due to their operational service.

He was a great supporter of Combat Stress and their life changing and life saving work as they help veterans with complex mental health problems tackle their past and take on the future

So thank you for your donation in his memory and in support of the much needed work of Combat Stress.
