English Channel solo swim · 10 July 2019

We‘re the world‘s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving and improving lives through research. We fund research into the prevention, detection and treatment of more than 200 types of cancer through the work of over 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses.

Story

Towards the middle of next month I aim to swim solo, non-stop across the English Channel.  This is something I have wanted to do for many moons and some 40 or so years later (that is a lot of moons) I will have the opportunity, weather pending.

Inspired by my swim coach, who sadly lost his battle with cancer at the beginning of the year, armed with my googles, and wearing just Speedo’s (and a smile) I am looking to cross in around 15 hours with the support of my crew, registered pilot and official observer.  In a straight line it's about 21 miles however in all likelihood it could be significantly longer given the prevailing conditions.

Crossing one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world, in waters of around 14c will be challenging.

I will be raising funds for Cancer Research UK having had some very close family, friends and colleagues affected by this horrible disease in recent years.

Thank you in advance for your kind support and positive words.

Best regards

Guy
