Dreamflight Pyrenean Challenge: 25th - 27th June 2007

The challenge that we faced was significant and daunting.  A press release called it 'Three Days in Hell', which proved to be accurate.  See www.walkerhamill.com/dreamflight for full details.

The sole beneficiary is a wonderful charity called Dreamflight - www.dreamflight.org .  Each year, Dreamflight carefully selects 192 seriously ill and disabled children, charters a Boeing 747 and takes them on the 'holiday of a lifetime' to the Florida theme parks.  Dreamflight brings fun and joy into the lives of children who perhaps can't wait long enough for the medical breakthrough they need, or whose illnesses and treatments have brought terrible pain, distress and disruption to their lives.   The following quotes are very insightful:

"The Dreamflight trip liberated him at exactly the time he needed it most.  He had his twelfth birthday last month and just when it would be natural for him to be gaining some independence, inevitably this is decreasing.  The holiday has given him something entirely his own - none of his family or carers was there and no one but he had the experience.  It has had a marked effect on his self esteem." "I was overjoyed to learn that my daughter had the chance of a lifetime to visit Florida.  I was actually in tears when I realised this was not just a dream but reality and she would have such an adventure after all the pain and sadness of her experiences in and out of hospital.  It lifted her out of the doldrums of her illness and gave her and us in fact, something exciting to look forward to."
