On the 20th of September 2009 I will be running 13.1 miles in the Great North Run - Its been over 12 years since I have run that sort of distance but it's about time I lost some weight and got fit!

I am running to raise money for Help for Heroes http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/ which helps servicemen  and woman from all three services of the great British Armed Forces.

This is a charity dear to my heart for a number of different reasons. I am sure you have all seen in the news that we have lost over 200 service personnel in Afghanistan; they made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can have the freedom that we enjoy.

Hundreds more are seriously injured in the line of duty and their lives are changed for ever. The Help for Heroes latest project is to raise money to build a number  of recovery centres throughout the UK to help those who are seriously injured, wounded and sick;details here http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/erskine.html
