Story

**Before you read any further, I wanted to let you know that further down the line the target may be raised for reasons that will become clear later**

On 26th August 2018 I will be climbing Ben Nevis, the tallest mountain in Britain in order to raise money for Penny Appeal’s water campaign. This campaign aims to provide clean water to those in areas where they cannot easily access it; it is estimated that 1 in 9 people don’t have clean water near to home - this equates to approximately 844 million people. 1 in 3 people, or 2.3 billion, do not have access to a clean toilet (World Health Organisation and UNICEF report 2017).

In the 21st Century, these statistics are astonishing. In a world where technology has advanced to unimaginable levels, there are still people, our fellow humans, living in such conditions where they cannot access the most essential of elements, whilst we live in luxury and waste water on a daily basis.

According to the WHO, a newborn baby dies every minute due to a lack of clean, safe water. Imagine the pain of a mother, all these mothers, every single day losing a baby they have carried for 9 months. It’s truly heartbreaking, a pain most of us cannot imagine.

£300 is the cost to build one well, and I’m hoping to raise enough to build AT LEAST four, hence the target of £1200. I need your help, and together we can raise enough money to provide two of the most desperate communities on this planet with access to clean water, which will no doubt save many lives.

I can’t reach this target without you - whether that’s through a donation or by spreading the word. Even a £1 donation can go a long way, especially if every person who reads this donates £1 and spreads the word. We could even smash the target and raise enough to build more than two! I’m hoping this will be the case and I’ll keep you guys updated.
