Silent solidarity with survivors of sexual violence.
We (Habs and Stevie) are combining our efforts to raise money and awareness for Glasgow Rape Crisis this Christmas
On the 22rd of December we will set off from Edinburgh's Rape crisis centre in the heart of Edinburgh and walk to Glasgow's rape crisis centre then on to paisley (where Habs will spend christmas) and then Stevie will continue on to Dunoon -via the ferry at gourock (where Stevie spends Christmas) we will then fast for the Festive period.
To make up the difference in the journeys Habs will also swim 320 lengths of her local pool on the Sunday while Stevie is doing his final day. - 1 length for every person that reported a rape or attempted rape against them in Glasgow in the last year. Although this number is not a reflection on the number of actual sexual assaults that occurred.
The trek will take 3 days and will cover approx 70 miles. We plan to do at least 8 hours each day and we will do it in silence to highlight the silencing that survivors experience each day. We want to show solidarity to anyone who has experienced sexual violence at any point of their life. You are not alone. We are walking with you.
Rape Crisis in Glasgow covers an area with a population of more than a million, 52% of whom are women and even the most conservative figures estimate that one in five of those women will experience sexual violence at some time in their lives.
