So I’m doing a 50km walk/jog challenge over the last weekend of May.

The last time I ran more than 10km on the road, my shoes weren’t strong enough and so I had some ligament damage, hence why I’m on the treadmill!

The challenge is a way to contribute to the Hackney 1000 challenge. In normal times, the Hackney 1000 challenge brings together the East London community to run, cycle, jog, skip 1000 kilometres around Well Street Common. This year the challenge has needed adjusting, but the goal remains the same; hours spent doing other non-running/walking activities will be weighted this year and be allowed as a contribution to the 1000km target. That being said, I've still chosen to run/walk as my contribution.

All money raised goes to supporting local young people & families through the COVID-19 crisis: delivering food, toiletries and IT equipment on a weekly basis; running online youth sessions; providing 1:1 mentoring over the phone; liaising with schools & other professionals to
coordinate support; and helping other organisations in the local community.

Finally, this fundraising campaign is especially meaningful to me because of my Grandma. She lived in Hackney for over thirty years and was an integral part of the local community. She attended Frampton Park Baptist Church, became a local councillor for Hackney in her 70s and served as a Consultant Community Physician in South East London. She passed away peacefully just over six months ago now, and I'm dedicating all of my running/walking to the legacy that she left behind in the community.
