We are a group of friends who are taking part in a fundraising car rally in July that starts in Saint-Quentin in France and ends three days later in Monte Carlo. MCoB is a banger rally, it is an event for adventurous people driving a car costing under £250 across Europe. We are raising money for a very special little girl named Lyra through the Tree of Hope Children's Charity.
Lyra is not even two, yet her life so far has been very difficult and challenging for both her and her family. She was born on 16th July 2012 with severe brain damage from congenital Cytomegalovirus (CMV). CMV is a common virus that can affect people of all ages with no signs or symptoms and no long-term effects. However it can be very dangerous to unborn babies. This is what happened to Lyra. As a result of the virus she has severe cerebral palsy, is blind, has epilepsy and is medically fragile.
Everyday is difficult and very challenging for Lyra but despite this she is a beautiful, loving little girl who can give you the warmest smile. We would really like to help make Lyra's life just that little bit better by helping her and her parents, James and Lucy, in paying for expensive therapies and equipment needed to improve her quality of life and to keep that smile on her face. If you would like to find out more about Lyra and her journey so far please visit
From the money we raise we will also be giving a donation to CMV Action, the only UK charity supporting families affected by CMV and whose aim is to educate, vaccinate and eradicate this cruel virus.
