Tom and I are cycling on e-bikes from Shanghai to Mumbai. We're hoping to raise money for charities in each of the countries we visit starting with our first major milestone: Hanoi, around 1800 miles by bike from Shanghai. The trip is going to take 35 days, averaging over 50 miles a day (including rest days where we go 0 miles). The Vietnam based charity we want to raise money for is 'Newborn Vietnam'. An excellent charity that helps decrease neonatal mortalities that are still so widespread in Vietnam. We were incredibly shocked and saddened to hear that more than 1.2% of births end in late and traumatic miscarriages, still births and early infant deaths, as compared to 0.37% in the UK (in 2015). The country has a heart-breaking history of conflict and continues to suffer to this day from Western intervention decades ago. We felt that this was something we wanted to dedicate our miles on the road to. Your donations will go towards training doctors and nurses specialised in these areas, and the purchasing of lifesaving equipment for hosptials throughout Vietnam. Anything you can spare for this great cause would be hugely appreciated. Every little helps.
