Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.

Story

I am fundraising in memory of my sister Beth, who died tragically aged 25 on 20th August 2022 from septic shock.

Having spent the last 2 days of her life with her, I was made aware of how suddenly and unexpectedly sepsis can take over and turn into septic shock. Prior to this, I had absolutely no idea how many lives sepsis took and how difficult it can be to spot. This is why I want to raise awareness and money, in the hope to prevent tragedies like this from happening in the future, as well as to ensure that other families affected have access to the support they need.

Beth was the most determined person I have ever met. She was constantly setting herself, and completing, crazy challenges, one of which took place in lockdown, where she challenged herself to run a half marathon having done minimal running before in her life. It goes without saying that she smashed it and I hope to do the same.

I hope to do her proud.
