Brighton Half Marathon 2021 · 10 October 2021 ·

The Wave Project is a national charity delivering Surf Therapy. We combine the power of the ocean (and other blue spaces), physical activity and trusted relationships to build resilience, confidence and calm. Fundraise with us and help more young people access early support that works!

Story

Texts from July 2020

Jo: "I entered the half marathon in a fit of madness. Are you still not tempted?"

Carolyn: "ugh, oh no, I'm so susceptible to FOMO! I briefly thought I could make it a charity run in honor of Helen...but you don't have a good track record of following through with your entries, haha. What if I end up having to run this thing by myself?!"

Jo: "I think the FOMO will wear off once winter training kicks in. And it's true - I have failed 2/2 attempts! I was also thinking of running for Helen and raising funds for a charity."

Carolyn: "I would do it for Helen. That is the only reason I would attempt such a stupid feat"

-----

Now over a year and two event postponements later, Jo and Carolyn are planning to run their first ever half marathon in memory of Helen. The training has been an amazing physical and mental journey (blood, sweat, and tears). We've learned that we can do things we didn't think possible. In June we completed an 11-mile training run, so we're already impressed by what Helen has managed to make us do!

We've chosen to fundraise for The Wave Project because it was a charity Helen supported. They do brilliant work motivating young people, building their confidence and improving their mental well being through sea activities.
