Story

As some of you know I have taken up the challenge of completing the London Marathon.

I have been inspired by my younger brother’s life journey and the strength of my brother’s wife Patricia Furey.

My brother lost his wife to cancer in 2012 the day before his birthday.

This is his story:

                 Rashid’s Story

I married my wife Tricia on July 2011, within a couple of months, discovered she was pregnant. It was an exciting time for us both. Getting our new home ready and planning for the arrival of our first baby. Four months into the pregnancy, she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. It was an agonising time, worrying about the health of both Trish and the baby, but thankfully, although delivered early by c –section, our son Yasin was born. Weighing only 2lbs Yasin spent 3 months in the intensive care unit, but just like mummy he was a strong and brave boy.

Two days after his birth, chemotherapy began, followed by extensive surgery and radiotherapy. Trish did not complain and continued to be positive and optimistic about the outcome, but unfortunately, during the final two weeks of radiotherapy, she started to get some stiffness in her back that led to the discovery of a tumor in her spine.

As she had throughout her illness, she showed true courage and an inner strength through the saddest of times, which allowed her to share moments of joy and laughter.

On the 26 of October 2012 Tricia passed away surrounded by those she loved. She wasn’t able to see Yasins first birthday but he will always know how brave his mummy was.

        _______________________________________

My brother is, without doubt, the strongest man I have ever come across. I am honoured that I can call him family. To train and run the marathon with him is a huge privilege.

I know Patricia is proud of Rashid and Yasin and will no doubt be pushing us over that finishing line in April!

I am raising money for disabled children in her memory. My brother will be raising money for Maggies Centres a charity that looked after Patricia.

Any donations big or small would be greatly appreciated.

LET’S DO THIS!
