Hamlet Centre Trust Snowdon Climb 2010 · 29 August 2010

At the Hamlet, we provide support for children, young people and adults with disabilities and complex health needs in Norwich and across Norfolk. We believe our members deserve to be valued for who they are and by providing recreational, educational and social opportunities.

Story

Update:

Despite treacherous weather conditions on the way up, we all made it to the top and walked back down again! Thank you to everyone who has sponsored us. The money raised brings the Hamlet Centre Trust that little bit closer to reaching the target of £1.3 million needed to renovate the St. Raphael Club building and expand the services already supporting people with disabilities in Norfolk.

About the Hamlet Centre Trust's Fundraising Campaign

The Children's services include the Toy Library and Mobile Toy Library, which give people the opportunity to borrow specialist toys; an integrated Early Years group for children under 5; Youth Clubs and Holiday Short Breaks. Each of these services provide enjoyable activties for the children, whilst also giving their families some respite.

The Adult's services include day activities based at the Hamlet Centre and our Independent Living Flat. Sessions aim to provide students with opportunities to develop their skills and to enjoy themselves. The Out of Hours Club provides evening and weekend activities for young adults, giving them the opportunity to enjoy the things other people their age are doing.

At the moment all of these services are based at the Hamlet Centre and Independent Living Flat. These sites are now full to capacity and for some time we have been unable to meet the demand for our services. We now have the opportunity to work with the St Raphael club and to jointly own their premises. This will mean that the Children's services can be based at the St Raphael club and the Adult's services can expand to use the whole of the Ella Road site. This will enable us to serve many more children and adults with complex health needs. Our specialist service covers much of Norfolk and gives vital support to families as well as to the children and adults for whom they care.

But to do all of this we need to raise £1.3 million! A group of volunteers with the Out of Hours Club are planning to climb Mount Snowdon on Sunday 29th August 2010 to raise as much as we can towards the expansion. Most of us are inexperienced climbers so this really will be a challenge! Any donation you can make will be much appreciated so please give as much as you can.
