Boycott your Bed Midlands · 9 July 2021 ·

On Friday 9 July, join forces with family, friends or colleagues to raise money for Action for Children by spending the night in the most unusual place you can think of and help children go to bed dreaming of a safe and happy future.

Story

On Friday 9th July I'll be pitching the hammock for a night as part of 'Boycott your Bed 2021' - I've roped in our local Explorer unit to celebrate our 'return to residentials' - but without the luxuries. It's a greenfield site with no toilet, 1 cold tap and they'll be cooking on whatever they can get warm enough to cook on. Hopefully it'll be dry but we'll just have to grin and bear it if it's a wet and stormy night !

Last year I slept in the Goat house and it was noisy and smelly...I'm thinking the hammocking idea will keep it fresh, but not so sure about getting a good nights sleep...they do like to natter !

We're spending a night in an unusual place to support Action for Children who believe that every child should grow up safe and happy like Katie, who was referred to Action for Children after suffering abuse at the hands of an ex-partner, and struggling with her mental health.

Her support worker, Hannah, became a vital lifeline. "Hannah is consistent, and I know she is always available on the end of the phone...I don't know what I would do without her. With Action for Children, I feel cared for and protected." When coronavirus hit, life got even harder for Katie and her son Christopher. Through Action for Children's Coronavirus Emergency Fund, Katie got a grant to pay for the basics as well as food vouchers. "Before I was crying and always stressed...It was a godsend."

Please help me raise funds to help vulnerable children, young people and families across the UK.
