I am planning to trek the Great Wall of China in October 2017 in aid of Alzheimers. This is a very important cause for our family as it took my grandmother Iris Hamilton in 2004. Ever since then my grandfather Alan Hamilton Senior and the entire family continued fundraising annually with the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk, and has raised £2370 since 2010 alone.
When my grandfather passed away in May 2016 I knew I had to do something special in his memory, and also raise money for a charity that was close to his heart. So over the next year I will attempt to raise £5000 myself.
The challenge itself is a 6 day trek over approximately 50 miles (80km) of woodland and terraced farmland, following the contours of the beautiful hills and mountains in remote areas north of Beijing.
I am also paying for the entire trip myself, therefore every penny raised will be going directly to The Alzheimers Society.
