Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On Monday I got the news that one of my friends had lost their lives to suicide over the new year. They had a personality disorder, which is one of the most stigmatised and misunderstood illnesses going, in the public eye as well as within healthcare. This means this group of people are often met with frustration in place of the empathy they need and deserve, as the difficulties they experience often find their roots in past trauma. In the case of Borderline/Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder, this can look like: difficulty with emotional regulation, impulsivity, intense but unstable interpersonal relationships, and disturbed patterns of thinking and/or perception. Around one in 20 people live with some form of personality disorder, its high time this illness got the same airtime and support we've seen for others in the recent past. It's great that as a society we're beginning to gain a better understanding of mental health, we need to continue that momentum and expand our understanding towards more complex, stigmatised needs. The best asset anybody and everybody has, is each other.
