Hi my name is Hana Sanei and I will be swimming the Channel in a relay with 5 other girls. It's proving much harder than I imagined. The main issue is the cold water. The channel could be as low as 16 degrees Centigrade so our training has to be in very cold water. When we started training at the Serpentine the water was just 6 degrees. It was soooo cold. We are now training Saturday morning at 7.00am! at the Serpentine and Sundays in Dover. It's hard to imagine just how scary swimming at Dover can be. The cold water, the waves, the way your arms brush against jelly like things. Why would anyone do this.........a good question. My reason is that I want to raise money for the charity 'Room to Read'.
I believe that that every girl throughout our globe, no matter what, should receive a good education. "Room to Read" builds schools for children in underdeveloped countries, it focuses on getting girls into these schools. For girls living in developing countries, the way to a better life is full of obstacles. Many still believe that girls should do domestic work at home. All this limits their options for the future. Room to Read allows Girls to be free and to create a better future for themselves. On August 29th I hope to swim the Channel in a 6 girl relay. Please support me by donating money and help give all girls the sort of education we all take for granted.
