Manchester Marathon 2021 · 10 October 2021 ·

SPACE4AUTISM is a place for people to meet in the same position as themselves, to share experiences and knowledge. We run social clubs for children, young people and adults with ASC and offer lots of advice and support to parent/carers. We also have our own cafe which is also open to the public

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am excited (and a little nervous) to be taking part in my first ever marathon. As some of you will know, running is my tonic my release in helping with the chronic leg issues that I have and has kept me going, especially during the pandemic and as I write up my PhD. I am honoured to take part in a challenge that is supporting a very important charity that offers fantastic social opportunities, clubs and sports for children and young people with ASC and also supports their carers and families.

My nephew has recently been diagnosed with autism and has already enjoyed several visits to Space4Autism enjoying the sensory room and family fun day activities. He's looking forward to his upcoming sessions.

The centre, based in Macclesfield also hosts regular training sessions on topics including behaviour and communication, sensory, PDA, what it is like to I've with autism and teens and young people understanding autism etc.

A bit more about this amazing charity incorporated organisation:

Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects how people perceive the world and interact with others.

Space4Autism was founded back in 2005 by John McKellar and along with Crossroads held a public meeting to see if there was a demand for a social skill for children who had an Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC). See https://space4autism.com/ for more details.

Space4Autism has grown over the years and has moved into different spaces to accommodate the need for its amazing services and opportunities. There are also ASC adult support services provided by the centre. The demand shows that it is a vital space for children and young people to shine and a truly wonderful place and service like this needs financial support to keep running, especially with the amazing working and volunteer team they have there!
