Story

Hi there!

Thank you so much for taking a moment of your time to learn more about my fundraising opportunity for Headway, the brain injury association.

So as you may already know, next May I will be fighting through the hills and winds of Edinburgh for a FULL on 26.2 miles, running my little socks off to the end!  I plan to be training rocky style, at least 4 nights a week in preperation for what is going to be the most physical and mentally challenging day of my life!!  But I'm all smiles and I can't wait for race day to arrive!

The only thing is... in order to spread the love of Headways I need to raise at least £500 and with your support, you could make this happen..

So why Headways?

As some of you may already know, three years ago my brother Paul was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

The incredible medical team from the John Radcliff Hospital, led by neurosurgeon Mr Kerr, saw Paul and my family through a difficult 18 months to a position now, after 30 hours of surgery and many months of recovery, he is well on the road to a full recovery.

Since then, I've wanted to give something back to all those people that gave my brother a second chance and I feel there is no better way than to help raise money for a charity that helps support the professionals and their patients.

Headways Brain Injury Association is a charity that relies completely on voluntary donations from people like you and me.  They look to improve life after brain injury by providing support, care and information to survivors, families and their carers.

Did you know?

Brain injury is the biggest form of death and disability in the 16-29 age group in the UK.

Each year, around 1.4 million people attend hospital A&E departments in the UK following head injury and around 135,000 people will be admitted because of the severity of their injury.

The major causes of head injury are road traffic accidents, falls or accidents at home or at work.  Approximately half of deaths in people under 40 are due to head injury.  Men are two or three times more likely to have a brain injury than women and this increases to five times more likely in the 15-29 age range.

Head injury accounts for about 30% of traumatic deaths and a higher proportion of long term disability.

So, what could your money do?

£50 provides information packs for two families when a relative has a brain injury

£ 270 runs the UK Helpline for a day and gives survivors and families access to specialist information and support

£500 provides a set-up grant to develop a local self help group for brain injury survivors

£2500 enables Headway to develop and produce 2000 copies of specialist publication giving vital information and practical advice to brain injury survivors, carers and professionals.
