Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Here's a little bit about why I'm running the Brighton Marathon....

My beloved mum, Jackie Guinness, passed away from ovarian cancer in 2015. She was only 52. It's taken me a long time to feel able to do something in her memory, but after spending the last year or so running regularly (yes, I was one of *those* lockdown joggers!) and really loving it, I started to think that a marathon would be a great way to do something for a good cause.

I picked Target Ovarian Cancer as my charity because ovarian cancer is one of the deadliest cancers for women. The early symptoms can be hard to detect and there's no screening test for it. It's often diagnosed once the disease is advanced, which is what happened with my mum and many others, so we desperately need more research and better early diagnosis.

My mum would most likely think I was mad for attempting to running a marathon (I do too at times!). She wasn't big on exercise (unless you counted shopping) but she was very courageous and faced any challenge head on, and I'm hoping that I can channel some of this 10 April 2022 to raise money for a really worthwhile cause.
