Story
The genetic heart condition, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), runs in my family. My mother, Dolores, and my older sister, Judy, both have a pacemaker and suffer from HCM. My little sister, Lona, died suddenly at the age of 16 from sudden cardiac death due to HCM. I was the only person with her when she passed away suddenly.
It was a lot for me to deal with being an 18 year old seeing this level of suffering.
My father has also suffered heart attacks and heart failure.
I am so glad that I could do something to help prevent others from suffering the way my family have. The British Heart Foundation has helped provide care for my older sister, Judy. I am running this marathon to raise money so that the BHF can continue doing its great work for patients and also their cutting edge research.
I will run this marathon with all my heart ❤️ I’ve never done anything like this before but I am so determined. Also because I’m crazy I’m also running the Berlin Marathon the week before on the 25th of September. So I’m running 2 out of the 5 major world marathons in the world within 1 week!
I have come a long way in my training journey and I am fortunate that I am fit and healthy to take on this monumental task for an amazing cause. I do this in memory of Lona.
Thank you for supporting my TCS London Marathon journey with the British Heart Foundation. With your donations, were raising money for one of the most exciting fields of research - regenerative medicine. We're aiming to fund breakthroughs and find cutting edge new treatments for people living with heart disease. The race is on to heal hearts together.
