We fund vital cancer research to save lives in Yorkshire

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. All donations go straight to Yorkshire Cancer Research!

Cancer has been a huge part of both our lives since we were born. That is why it is so important to us to raise money for such a terrible disease. We wanted to challenge ourselves to do something big , to raise awareness for other cancer suffers through this amazing charity and to raise donations to benefit cancer research and treatment. (The skydive is self-funded so all donations go directly to Yorkshire Cancer Research)

Please read below for our personal experiences and reasons for our skydive:

Kate:

One of the main reasons why I decided to fundraise for this amazing charity is due to the fact that my dad has been suffering with cancer all my life. In 1991 my dad was diagnosed with a brain tumour which resulted in him being totally deaf in one ear. When I was just 6 months old my dad was diagnosed with colon cancer in which he underwent a life-threating operation after having radiotherapy. The operation was successful and he was cancer free until it returned to the large bowel so he had yet another big operation. 2 months later he got the devastating news of prostate cancer and had to have his prostate and bladder removed. Following major surgeries he then discovered the cancer spread to his lymph nodes and he has sepsis which is he living with now. After intensive treatment over the years, he is now living with cancer yet you would never know unless you knew my dad well. I have never heard him complain and he has continued to fight so positively to this day. He really is a true inspiration and I would feel so happy to know that I was able to raise funds in order to support both my dad and other cancer suffers going forward.

Last year my gran had a traumatic fall and broke her hip. She was admitted to LGI where she had several scans following the fall. On one of the scans they found a shadow on her lung which turned out to be lung cancer. Thankfully it was caught extremely early and she was able to have an operation in which they removed a 1/3 of her right lung and lympnodes. Since then the follow-up scan have all been clear and she has made a great recovery. Like many people my gran has been extremely lucky that after having cancer she will continue to live a happy life due to the incredible developments in cancer and treatments and the amazing healthcare staff.

Hannah:

I was born on the 29th of October 2001, the same day as my Grandpa. My Grandpa has lived with cancer for the last 25 years and unfortunately lost his battle with his terminal cancer last month after it spread throughout his vital organs. My Grandpa really was a true hero, he was so strong and brave, a true family man who would have moved earth and sun for anyone and everyone. He made a positive difference wherever he went. I loved him with all my heart and was so proud of him. He was a hard working man who set up multiple businesses, had a football career, raised 3 sons, did work for charities and the church and lived life to the cockney full. This year will be my first year, celebrating my birthday on my own. Grandpa's final surgery was essential to keeping him alive which sadly was not successful, this is why raising money for research and treatment is essential to all cancer suffers.

My other Grandfather, Papa Ronnie, lost his life to cancer very quickly and very suddenly when my mother was only 18 to bowl cancer. He was 46. I'm very sad to never have met him, he was my Mum's hero, another truly amazing man  and to have tragically lost his life so young to such a horrible disease is heart-breaking.

However, Nonoah, my Grandma and Papa Ronnie's wife was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 years ago, and after treatment and a lumpectomy was announced cancer clear. She is now healthy, bubbly and full of life.

Cancer has been rife in my life for a long time, with aunties and uncles, grandparents, family and friends being diagnosed and affected by this horrendous disease.

Kate and I both feel its massively important to raise money and awareness for this killer disease. 1 in 2 of us will be diagnosed with cancer, in our lifetimes, therefore funding for  research and treatment is vital for the fight for the future against this disease.

Please help us in this fight against cancer and please donate anything you can to help support us and anyone you know who is affected by cancer.

Together we can do it.
Thank you
