Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We were both interested in participating in the Colour Rush Race for Kirkwood Hospice because getting covered in powder paint simply sounds like a good laugh whilst raising money for a well deserving charity.
We have both paid to participate in the race and that money automatically goes to Kirkwood Hospice however we feel that the sum we paid simply isn't enough for what services the charity provides and we would love to give them a little more.
Kirkwood Hospice helps to improve the lives of people with incurable conditions. This can be at the hospice, in the home or out in the community. Their aim is to make sure that those in their care have the opportunity to live the best quality of life possible and are able to make the most of the time they have left.
The service they run is FREE OF CHARGE and they provide specialist care to adults in Kirklees with advanced, progressive illnesses at ANY time from diagnosis to end of life, respecting their patient's individual needs and wishes. Care and support is also provided for their family members, friends and carers, both during the illness and after death.
Through education, training and partnership with others, the Hospice improves care for everyone affected by a life-limiting illness.
Hannah:
Unfortunately I have lost family members due to cancer and I have seen the devastation first hand what cancer causes. Unfortunately these family members were unable to make it in to a hospice but I know that if they would have received the end of life care they deserved, it would have been peaceful, respectful and dignified.
I attended a bereavement course at Kirkwood Hospice which they put on for FREE where they taught us how to understand bereavement and how we can help others going through it. I am extremely thankful I had the opportunity to attend this course as it has helped me when working with children who have lost a loved one. When I attended the course I saw that all the staff at Kirkwood were welcoming and simply lovely. The grounds were beautiful, everything was clean and it was so peaceful. The kind of place you would like to be if you knew your time here was limited. The fact that they provide all this totally free of charge is remarkable and therefore they deserve every penny raised. So a BIG thankyou to anyone who takes their time to give anything they can for this wonderful cause!
Jade:
Even though I didn't have any dealings with Kirkwood hospice before this event, my Grandma sadly passed away in 2016 from Hodgkin's lymphoma which is a type of blood cancer, I want to help Kirkwood raise money to help other people with end of life care, as I've seen first hand what it's like without the help and advice given by Kirkwood Hospice.
Kirkwood hospice was my grandma's charity of choice for many years, which is why I have chosen to take part in this event on her behalf and to honour her memory and other loved ones that have sadly lost the battle to cancer, as Kirkwood hospice do an outstanding and amazing job in providing end of life care and give comfort to the loved ones of the patients.
