London Landmarks Half Marathon for Endometriosis UK

London Landmarks Half Marathon 2024 · 7 April 2024 ·
Back in 2022 I took on a steps challenge for Endometriosis UK and decided I wanted to set myself a bigger challenge... I will therefore be running the London Landmarks Half Marathon in April 2024 to raise vital funds for Endometriosis UK!
Endometriosis is the name given to the condition where cells similar to the ones in the lining of the womb (uterus) are found elsewhere in the body. It is a chronic and often debilitating condition that can cause painful periods, painful sex and pelvic pain outside of periods. It may also lead to infertility, fatigue and bowel and bladder problems.
Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women and those assigned female at birth, that's as many as diabetes yet very few people have even heard of it. The impact can be felt for life and there is no cure.
It takes an average of 8 years to get a diagnosis of endometriosis in the UK, that's too long! Your donations will mean that Endometriosis UK can continue to support those affected by Endometriosis through national support groups, information provision and their helpline as well as continue to campaign for change, fairer treatment and eventually a cure.
I've been on my own journey with Endo over the last 19 years and back in 2019, after 15 years, I finally had my first laparoscopy and a formal diagnosis. My case is a bit different to the norm but this said, even in a less complicated medical situation, the diagnosis and treatment for endometriosis isn't a straight forward process and for me personally was an extremely long, emotional and frustrating ride. I am lucky to have people around me to talk to but sadly, a lot of women suffer in silence.
We need to encourage more public conversations about Endometriosis and women's health matters to assure women they will be taken seriously.
More research on less invasive diagnostic techniques for endometriosis needs to happen and I hope that one day more women can easily access support, a diagnosis and the treatment needed in a much shorter timeframe.
I'll be tracking my training progress over the next 12 weeks and if you are able to donate towards a cause very close to my heart, I would be so grateful but if not, please spare 5 minutes to have a read about Endometriosis to continue to raise the much needed awareness of a condition that affects so much of the female population.
Thank you so much. 🎗️💛
