Story
Hi Everyone!
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page! I am pleased to let you all know that i successfully completed the Royal Parks London Half Marathon yesterday in 2 hours and 20 minutes! It was a beautiful sunny day and after about 9 miles i was starting to feel the pain but somehow kept on going!!
Thank you all so much for your support, all the money that i have raised will go to UNICEF UK's (The United Nations Childrens Fund), "Born Free Campaign", which aims to prevent all children being born free from the HIV/AIDS virus. To learn more about the campaign you can visit: http://www.unicef.org.uk/campaigns/born_free/
UNICEF is the World's leading children's organisation, constantly striving to protect and improve the lives of millions of children across the world. To put it into perspective of how important even the smallest of donations can be...as little as:
68p provides anti-retroviral medicine for mum and baby at birth. This covers the cost of a high dose of ARVs for the mother when she is in labour and for the baby within 72 hours of birth. It will reduce the chance of transmission by 50%.
£1.84 pays for a pregnant woman to have a blood spot test. This figure is the cost of the screening test. In high prevalence countries the cost of the test is estimated at being $3 with 20% added for labour, transport insurance etc.
£11 provides HIV test kits for 5 mums-to-be. If the expectant mother has HIV she can then receive medicine for herself and her unborn baby
£50 provides a years supply of HIV medicine for a mother so that her baby doesn’t grow up an orphan.
So please sponsor me now!
Your donation have helped UNICEF continue this vital work. UNICEF receives no funding from the United Nations and instead we rely on voluntary donations from generous organisations and individuals like you who haven't forgotten the children affected by this terrible disaster.
On behalf of everyone at UNICEF and all those who will benefit from your gift, thank you!!!
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: UNICEF UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
