We are calling on the Great British public to help us raise funds to help our older people in this time of national crisis.

Story

Dear friends and family

Tuesday 21st April is my 40th birthday. So, inspired by Captain Tom, I’m going to run, walk and dance 40,000 steps that day to raise funds for Age UK’s Coronavirus Emergency Appel.

I know times are tough, but if you can spare a couple of quid, please please sponsor me.

40,000 steps is about the equivalent of a marathon. And whilst achievable under normal circumstances, under lockdown, living on a 60ft houseboat I’m not sure how I’m going to do it - but I’ll give it a good shot.

Every penny you donate will help Age UK support the most vulnerable and isolated older people during the coronavirus crisis.

I work for this fantastic charity and I’m completely overwhelmed by the courage and commitment of my ‘essential worker’ colleagues on the frontline -delivering food packages, providing home care, staffing helplines and making befriending calls. Demand for Age UK’s services has never been higher and funding has never been so scarce. But we can’t let older people down - so please donate if you can to keep me stepping.

(N.B. I’ll complete this challenge according to social distancing guidelines: with just one longer bit of outdoor run, the rest I’ll do on my boat.)

Keep an eye out for updates on my progress on 21st on Twitter/Facebook/instagram.
