Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Here's a bit about what I'm raising money for:
We are a team of Nottingham University students part of SIFE, which stands for ‘Students in Free Enterprise’ and is a global not-for-profit organisation active in 47 countries around the world. It is the largest network of students and business leaders in the world. SIFE has allowed us to develop an overseas project in Malawi to create economic opportunities for others. The village, Ruarwe, has no electricity and many are living in poverty.
I travelled to Malawi for one month between August and September 2012. Our biggest success of this trip was setting up a battery pack business in under 3 weeks. This involved interviewing and training 3 new staff members who had previously been unemployed. The 50 battery packs that we imported are charged by solar panels and give the energy for up to 4 lightbulbs, have a USB point and enable phone charging.
We also conducted research whilst in Ruarwe. We found that micro financing could be a successful idea both with livestock and sewing machines.
We are currently working on expanding the battery pack scheme to improve the lives of even more in the village and surrounding areas. One area of expansion we are looking at is to create a floating fishing light to replace paraffin. We believe this could be a great success as fishing is the main industry there.
In order to continue our hard work in Malawi we need to raise around £10,000. We believe that as well as creating sustainable businesses in the village, we really are transforming lives.
I would like to thank you for taking the time to view our page and would ask if you could help in any small way to continue the hard work that has been put in, helping the development and the residents of Ruarwe. We feel this project really is changing lives.
Thank you,
SIFE Empower Malawi
