Story
When my Granny was just nine years old, she was taken into the care of Barnardo’s children’s home, she remained under their care until she was sixteen.
The support Barnardo’s gave her didn’t just help her survive her childhood, it shaped the adult she became. Granny went on to live a successful, independent life and she always credited Barnardo’s with giving her the skills she needed to raise her own family. Our family is here today because the charity stepped in to help a vulnerable child when she needed it most.
To honour the support that changed her life, I’m taking on the London Landmarks Half Marathon to raise money for Barnardo’s. This run is my way of giving something back to the charity that gave Granny a future.
Every donation will help Barnardo’s continue to provide care to children who need it most. Granny’s time in care is a powerful reminder of how vulnerable children can be and how vital it is that organisations like Barnardo’s are there to help protect them.
Barnardo’s is a UK children’s charity that works to support and improve the lives of children experiencing abuse, neglect, poverty, homelessness, family breakdown or who are in care or leaving care. For many children, like Granny, their support can be truly life-changing, not just in the moment but for the future they go on to build.
The training for a half marathon is tough but knowing I’m raising money for such an incredible charity keeps me motivated. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for supporting a cause that means so much to me.
So lucky to have had a Granny like her 💜
