Who is me inspiration
Oliver Famili, my best mate of 31 years (im 34)
In 2017 he was diagnosed with an incurable blood cancer called multiple myeloma. Oli was having back pains that kept getting worse and after multiple trips to the hospital and them not finding anything wrong with him, he finally collapsed. It turned out that he had 9 fractures in his spine and after further tests he was diagnosed with this cancer.
From that day life changed and the following years have been full of hospital appointments, operations, different chemo treatments, double stem cell transplant and most recently CAR T-cell therapy.
Where Oli has turned into my inspiration is how he has dealt with this mentally; his positivity and drive and through all of this he still finds time to think of everyone else. I remember when I stayed with him in the UCLH when he was having chemo therapy and in the middle of the night was being violently sick, in between being sick he was saying 'sorry H this is rough to see, sorry about this mate'
His mental strength is what inspires me and when I start to moan about certain things or think 'I cant do this/ this is hard' I can channel into how strong and positive he has been.
Before Multiple Myeloma came into my immediate circle I had never heard of this horrible illness - I am running the Paris 2024 marathon to help raise awareness and money for this amazing charity, Myeloma UK
