2022 October Cardiff Half Marathon · 2 October 2022 ·
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.My nephew, Albie, was born on the 29th of October 2020 with Cytomegalovirus (CMV). Albie is the most gorgeous, happy & chilled-out baby. Albie's CMV diagnosis means that he is deaf in one ear, has visual impairments, brain calcifications, and developmental delays.CMV is a common virus that can infect people of all ages. Most healthy adults and children who become infected will have no signs or symptoms and no long-term effects from CMV. It can however pose serious risks to unborn babies.CMV is one of the leading causes of hearing loss in children and one of the main causes of childhood disability. It is more common than Down's Syndrome, yet very few people have ever heard of it.CMV Action help raise awareness and provide support for families affected by Congenital CMV, ensuring that they receive the best possible service from their healthcare and education. They work with medical professionals who have an interest in Congenital CMV and they support much-needed research in this field.Research is currently underway for a CMV vaccine and we hope that one day, it will become widely available. Their campaign stresses the need for a vaccine to health professionals and policymakers by highlighting the devastating impact of CMV.Your donations will have a direct impact on the families affected by CMV (as well as raising awareness), so please give generously so we can make a big difference 🤍You can read more about CMV here: https://cmvaction.org.ukCMV action are currently campaigning to screen newborn babies for CMV.
