Story
This summer as of the June the 16th, the three of us will be heading out to North America for the biggest journey of our lives to date, finishing two and a half months later, hopefully 1,200 miles west of where we started! This journey goes under the name of The Pacific Northwest Trail.
We feel incredibly blessed to be in an able enough state as individuals to consider a trip like this - covering the cost ourselves - and would love to be able to give back to those who may not be able to live as freely.
As a result, we are aiming to raise £1 for each kilometre we travel, with the end goal sat at 2000 kilometres (£2000). This money will be distributed evenly between the three charities we have chosen; the National Autism Society, the Make-A-Wish foundation and the Friends of Vamizi Trust (all linked below).
It would mean the world to us if you were able to donate. No matter the size, it is greatly appreciated by the affiliated charities and us! If you are unable to donate, simply sharing this page with your friends and family will make a big difference!
The Pacific Northwest Trail is a lesser-known North American thru hiking route, starting at the continental divide in Montana’s Glacier National Park. From there, it follows the Canadian border west through Idaho and into Washington before making its way to the finish line along the Olympic Coast, looking out into the Pacific Ocean!
“Against the Grain” is the unofficial slogan of the PNT and with good reason. The 1,200 mile route climbs over seven mountain ranges with an elevation change of over 415,000 feet whilst, passing through some of America’s most remote wilderness in between.
We will be bushwhacking our way, chest deep through both grizzly and black bear territory. At times, listening out for the faint howls of gray wolves that inhabit nearly 600 miles of our route. At others, keeping a cautious eye out for mountain lions or wandering moose that share the route.
There will likely be periods without any other human contact for up to 8 days, with no trail to follow besides the wilderness route we plot to get from A to B. For each us, this will be a huge trip and one to make sure we are very prepared for, both mentally and physically.
In the run up to our trip, we will also be taking part in a few other events to raise money. This will start in March, when we will be running the Fulham 10K!
Theo’s band, Acres will also be hosting a non-profit charity show shortly before we head away, where there will be the opportunity to donate! If you have any other suggestions for events we could partake in to help raise awareness or money, don’t hesitate to pop one of us a message!
