Story
I probably have an appreciation for vision and eyecare more than the average person and feel access to eyecare is a basic human right. Vision is one of the most fundamental parts of our lives. I have had really bad blurry vision since I was born and need a very strong prescription of glasses to see clearly. Whilst my bad vision might be a hindrance to me at times, I’ve never had an eye disease or suffered with sight loss and if I did I know I can rely on decent eyecare both through the NHS and affordable alternatives.
People in developing countries like Africa and parts of Asia do not have access to even basic eyecare. Sightsavers treat eye conditions such as cataracts and tackle debilitating diseases, many of which cause sight loss. They also advocate for the rights of people with visual impairments and other disabilities, and help to improve local health services so they are sustainable.
