Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
First of all it would not be fair in starting differently to appreciating my Granddad for the saint he was. A true gentleman in my lifetime; a rock in my childhood who was Mr Dependable.
I've been lucky enough to have had my Granddad in my life for 21 years and would like to take the time to remember how much time he has invested into shaping me into the person I am today. He would ferry me miles on weekends to be able to visit York and see the family, looked after me whenever and we have shared unforgettable memories and holidays together.
Unfortunately on March the 2nd my Granddad lost his courageous battle with lung cancer and passed away to a better place. Being a charitable man himself (volunteering for the local fire service and keeping active through retirement doing small jobs for neighbours, donating the small income towards the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and The Fire Fighters Charity) inspired me to raise money for a relevant meaningful charity in Roy Castle.
Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation provides vital information and support to sufferers from lung cancer in the UK. Furthermore the charity donates over £1 million annually into the research to combat the fatal cancer. Therefore I am again taking part to raise money for the charity in honour of my Granddad's inspiring life.
Bit on the side:
With over 46,700 new cases of lung cancer a year, lung cancer is the 3rd most common cancer in the UK (2015) and second most common in men and woman, accounting for 13% of all new cancer cases. Also 1 in 13 men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime whilst 1 in 17 women will be diagnosed, and globally over 1.83 million new cases were recorded in 2012.
This means all money raised will go to a truly great cause and I will be forever grateful to everyone that donates and hope to do my Grandad proud.
