Story
Got Matar means Bare Hilltop. In just a few years this rural community, with the highest HIV infection rate in Kenya and a drought-prone climate, has worked with some individual and small scale charity donations to build a secondary school and a technical college. This offers local children realistic prospects beyond primary education, and the potential to improve the local economy.
The Got Matar Community Group has made excellent progress with modest resources in a short time. However, further funding will help them move to becoming self-sufficient. It will also fund bursaries for children who cannot afford the expense of school and depriving their families of help at home in the poor economic climate of the last few years. As an example, the cost of a 4 year bursary is about £500.
My family, their friends and colleagues have been supporting this community for several years. It is high time I helped - and gave you the opportunity to do so as well!
Last year, when the NYC Marathon was cancelled I ended up running 28.5 miles round central Park by a mistake - even if it is no faster or less painful, at least it will be shorter this year! Which was very amusing to everyone who knows just how much I love running!
