Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On December 17th 2011 my family and I lost our wonderful Aunty Judy (Lala) at the age of 67 to pancreatic cancer. She was the kindest, gentlist person I ever met, she would do anything for anyone and was the glue that held our family together. We miss her more than words can express.
My aunty was only diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on 21 November 2011 and in less than 4 weeks she passed away. Watching her fade away from us in that time was without the most difficult experience of my life. For a lady who had just retired and spent her whole life giving to others, what she went through was just so so unfair.
Before her diagnosis i knew absolutely nothing about pancreatic cancer. I was worried of course but hoped that with the advances in treatment she would recover and be ok. Once i read about pancreatic cancer online the severity of what was happening hit me like a tonne of bricks.
Whilst the treatments and prognosis for most cancers have improved considerably in recent years, those for pancreatic cancer have practically stood still. On diagnosis only 20% survive 1 year. The average survival time is around 4 months. Our aunty survived just 26 days.
I've decided to run the half marathon in memory of my aunty. I'm in training now and coming to terms with how far 13.5 miles actually is. Its going to be a tough 2 months of training. It would be great to raise money for pancreatic cancer research and to achieve a goal of mine at the same time. Any donations are hugely appreciated and will no doubt spurr me on.
Thanks for reading.
