Right now, millions of children are in danger. They face violence, disease, hunger and the chaos of war and disaster. Unicef ensures more children get life-saving food, vaccinations, education and protection than anyone else. With your help, we can build a safer world for children. unicef.org.uk

Story

Last weekend I watched Simon Reeve’s ‘Incredible Journeys’, in the first episodes I have learnt how in Bangladesh and other countries there are children younger than me living in poverty and living on the streets.  They do anything to earn money for their family.  In the programme children as young as 4 were picking pieces of glass out heaps of rubbish and taking them to the glass factories where 10 year olds were working at a hot furnace making glass bottles. They earned the equivalent of 30p for one days’ work.  The adults there said that foreigners had come and tried to take the children out of work but without work they had no money and their situation became worse.  This is where Unicef comes in. They have set up centres for working children. These centres provide a free lunch, shower, a safe place to socialise with their friends and a basic education.

This inspirational programme made me wonder how I can help people like this. I have come up with a challenge to try and raise money for Unicef. I have decided to run 100 kilometres in February (25k per week, not including walking).  I am hoping that people will sponsor me for completing this running challenge so I can raise as much money as possible for Unicef.  Not only will my running get better, children’s lives will get better.
