Story

My little boy Harry has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, which means he is a permanent wheelchair user. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a rare progressive muscle-wasting condition that eventually affects all muscles in the body, including the heart and lungs. It is a life-limiting condition that worsens over time, preventing the continued use of limbs. There is currently no cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, but there is hope!I am so proud to be Harrys Mum. He is the most positive, fun and happy little boy. He never complains about his condition or dwells on the things he cannot do or misses out on. He goes through so much every day, it is so much for a 10-year-old. I am in awe of the way he takes everything in his stride, when I feel low Harry is definitely my strength.Harry is a very popular little boy and is very fortunate to have so many friends at school who have grown up with him and see him no different to the other children. He will miss them when he moves on to Secondary school.Harry currently has a manual wheelchair, which he relies on having someone push him everywhere he needs to go. He has tried out a motorised wheelchair recently, which saw his little face light up. The chair had many functions, which will benefit Harry’s everyday life bringing him independence as he approaches secondary school. I will be taking part in a Marathon River Walk between Rochester and Tonbridge to help with the fundraising campaign on Saturday 18th October. This is a great challenge for me, which I initially thought would be easy to complete, but after starting training, I’m feeling nervous as to whether I will actually be able to complete the walk. I would really appreciate your support in helping me raise as much funds as possible to push through the challenge to the end. If there are any walkers who would like walk part of the route with me I would be grateful for the company too.Thank you
