We support homeless LGBTQ+ young people to ensure they're safe and supported

Story

After the fantastic success of the previous #LifeboatsForHarry and #KindnessForHarry campaigns (which raised an incredible $11,400 for the RNLI and over $5,700 for the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital), I am asking for support to fundraise for The Albert Kennedy Trust as a present for Harry Styles on his 25th Birthday.

The Albert Kennedy Trust are a fitting charity for this year's fundraiser. The trust, which was founded in Manchester, works to provide safe spaces for LGBTQ+ 16-25 year olds who are homeless, living in a hostile environment or in housing crisis. Harry's concerts have been considered a place of inclusivity and safety for LGBTQ+ fans since he has become a solo artist, with pride flags becoming commonplace among the crowd and often waved on the stage. I believe this is an opportunity for us to continue his message of kindness and ensure vulnerable youth can continue to have access to this wonderful charity's engagement.

Speaking about our previous fundraisers (#SaveSkylark and #LifeboatsForHarry), Harry said "it's so incredible, when people react to stuff, and want to do little things to help, everyone does these things and shows that a little bit adds up to these amazing things. That's incredible, so nice, and thank you." He also said "If someone has a choice and they choose to do something like that, then that's incredible, I love that." Harry also liked a tweet to acknowledge last year's RMCH campaign.

Let's make him proud again!

With love,

Some information from the AKT about how your donation can help:

Your donation will help LGBTQ+ young people in crisis. Here's how your contribution could make a real difference:

£9.99 can help keep a LGBTQ+ young person safe. A basic mobile with credit can be the difference between staying connected, and feeling isolated, cut off and unsafe.

£25 keeps a young person safe for one night in LGBTQ+ friendly accommodation when homeless or facing abuse just for being who they are.

£34.99 can pay for a basic smartphone, which is no luxury for homeless LGBTQ+ young people; it can be essential for keeping safe and connected with vital support, like our services team and digital mentors.

£50 provides a young person with an Emergency Support Pack, which includes three nights’ accommodation, bedding, toiletries, mobile phone top-up, food vouchers and travel allowance.

£100 will provide travel expenses for a young person outside London to attend our annual youth conference.

£250 contributes towards a Rainbow Starter Pack to assist a young person with necessary items as they move into independent living after their time with us.

Coming out, or being outed as LGBTQ+ can lead to young people being made homeless. This is the reality for 77% of the young people akt supports. We proudly offer safe homes and better futures for LGBTQ+ people aged 16-25.
