Story
Millions of women like Kasthuri are born into poverty. They’ve faced prejudice all their lives: no rights, no security, no voice.
In India, and around the world, our projects are helping communities to break through the social and economic exclusion that’s holding them back. You can help more people to build a future for themselves and their families through Christian Aid's Harvest Appeal. Make this the season for change.
My name’s Nick Thorley. I’m blind and enjoy running long distances. This October, to raise money for Christian Aid’s Harvest Appeal, I’m going to run 100 miles over two days. A host of church leaders from Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire will be accompanying me – guiding me as they run stages of this Ultra Marathon. Find out more about who’s running and why below:
I'm running because I want to support what you're doing to raise money for this great cause. I also like the idea that this will cost me more than just money, and having taken up running in the last year, I'm excited to use this hobby to do some good.
Rev Johnny Hughes (Trinity Church, Nottingham)
Christian Aid is one of St. Giles’ West Bridgford’s Mission Partners, whom we’ve supported for many years due to the quality and integrity of their on-the-ground work they do, and their advocacy for the rights of the poor in the global South. We’ve benefitted greatly in this from the support of Nick over many years, so it’s great to be able to say thank you to him - and to help him raise funds for Christian Aid’s fantastic work - through this amazing running challenge.
Rev Tim Chambers (St. Giles' Church, West Bridgford)
I’ve agreed to do this because it sounds like a fun challenge and Christian Aid is doing great work… particularly helping churches, the body of Christ, to make a difference globally. When we complain that there’s too much greed in business or that the political system means its impossible to make a meaningful change or impact, by joining with Christian Aid we can.
Rev Mike Forsythe (Christ Church, Chilwell)
I am very excited to run through Shipley Park. It is a very beautify local park which attract many visitors daily. This is quite a great opportunity to get fit, in the nature. More importantly, it is a delight to fund raise and support Christian Aid in their harvest appeal. I am sure that my contribution will bless many people in need that time of the year.
Rev Bachelard Kaze (ELM Pastorate)
It's a great cause, Nick is a good friend, and I need to get fit, what could go wrong?
Rev Lee Proudlove (St Giles' Church, West Bridgford)
I've signed up for this challenge as it enables me to bring together two passions: Christian Aid's commitment to working for a world where everyone can live a full life, free from poverty, and running.
Rev Geoffrey Clarke (The Crossing Church, Worksop)
Please give generously to this amazing cause.
