Trainee teacher Virginia (Ginny) Neher and her Teach First Development Lead Harvey Cramp are raising money to help build a fair education for all. Each taking own their own epic challenges in 2021.

Story

I began working for Teach First in 2018 after spending 19 years teaching. I am inspired every day by our mission ‘to build a fair education for all’ and feel lucky to be working for an organisation where everyone lives and breathes common values. The trainees I have worked to support over the last 3 years have left an indelible mark on myself, their students, and the schools in which they work. Their tireless commitment, enthusiasm and perseverance never ceases to amaze me and they have worked particularly hard through the difficult circumstances of the last year to support the young people they serve.

Virginia Neher, one of the trainees I have worked closely with who is now in her NQT year, has further inspired me by herself taking on the challenge to complete first a marathon (already done), and then an ultra-marathon (50 miles through the Yorkshire Dales – June 12th) to raise money for Teach First. I felt the need to rise to the challenge also so I will be completing an event of my own. On June 26th I will be riding the ‘Coast to Coast in a Day’ from Seascale to Whitby (hosted by Open Cycling). It is described as ‘A stunning 150 mile with 4500m of ascent road ride from the mountainous Western Lake District, through the Yorkshire Dales, across the flat Vale of York and finally the Northern Valleys of the North York Moors, finishing by the sea in Whitby’.

Everyone who knows me knows I ride to and from the train, to the office and sometimes even to and from schools – but this will be an epic journey on another level! Follow my preparations for the event on this page and thank-you!
