We fund research and raise awareness to shine a light on Lewy body dementia

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Following a 7 year battle with dementia with Lewy bodies, our Mum sadly died in September 2016.

Dementia with Lewy bodies, is the second most frequent cause of dementia and is often misdiagnosed, as it was in Mum's case.

Whilst the campaign to raise awareness has begun, it is important that people also understand about the lesser known types of dementias as an understanding is crucial in being able to properly describe the symptoms to get an early, accurate diagnosis and to be able to provide relevant care.

At least 5 percent of people aged 85 and older are thought to live with this little known but not uncommon and devastating disease. In the UK approximately 100,000 are thought to have dementia with Lewy bodies.

So in the Summer of 2018 Emma & Kate are walking the 3 Peak's in Yorkshire to raise awareness about dementia with Lewy bodies and money for the Lewy body Society.

Lewy body dementia is the second most common cause of age-related dementia, affecting around 130,000 people in the UK. We raise awareness of the disease, provide information to patients and carers, and fund research so that in future it can be more easily diagnosed and treated.
