Hattie's 100 Mile Walk in 6 Weeks

100 Mile Walk in 6 Weeks · 7 February 2022
Hello! I'm raising money in aid of the National Kidney Federation and every donation will help immensely. I am aiming to walk 100 miles in 6 weeks, through a virtual walking challenge along the route of the French Rivera. Starting on February 7th, I hope to complete the challenge by the 21st of March. Thank you so much in advance for your contribution, this cause really means SO much to me!
When I was born, neither of my kidneys were formed properly and I ended up needing a kidney transplant at the age of 2 1/2. 22 years later to the day on 27th July 2021, after spending over 2 years on dialysis treatment, I received a second kidney transplant from my Dad who was amazingly a match! I am now 6 months post transplant and feel a longing to fundraise for a charity that helps others with Chronic Kidney Disease, as I know the struggles of living with this chronic illness.
I am so proud to have become an ambassador for the NKF to raise awareness for Chronic Kidney Disease, especially the younger people that have been born with it or have been diagnosed early in life. It can be such a difficult thing to navigate alongside growing up, your studies and just generally finding yourself as a young adult! The majority of CKD representation in the industry is from older people as it does often occur later in life, however the NKF are working hard to support all kidney patients through their helplines and information leaflets and I want to raise awareness for other chronic illness warriors that the support is there if they wish to access it.
This challenge means so much to me in so many ways. Not only do I want to prove to myself that even only 6 months post transplant, it's possible to be living life to the full and not be defined by your chronic illness, but also I want to fundraise for an incredible charity that have given me nothing but support and kindness in such a challenging time in my life. I also want to prove to others with CKD or chronic illnesses that you are capable of anything. Remember that however hard the climb feels, the view from the top makes it all worth it.
More information about National Kidney Federation: The NKF is a small but highly effective national charity, established 40 years ago and still unique in several ways. They are the only UK support organisation run by kidney patients for kidney patients; they provide the only national Helpline dedicated solely to renal patients, their families and carers; and are the UK's largest producer and distributor of kidney related medical information leaflets. Right across the UK they currently support 2 million kidney patients.
