Hattons Solicitors in St Helens are taking on the Lake Logic End of Season Standard Triathlon on Sunday 15th September 2013, in aid of Alder Hey Children's Charity (charity number 1049275).
Energetic legal eagles Dave Merrills, Steve Hodkinson and Mark Coston will take on the Lake Logic Triathlon, completing an epic 1500m swim, 41km cycle route, finishing with a 10km run in the Cotswolds.
The group were set to do a 24 hour endurance cycle challenge at the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit on 14th September, but unfortunately that event has now been cancelled. Donations already given will be transferred to this new challenge and will still go to Alder Hey.
They decided to fundraise for Alder Hey Children's Charity after colleague Mike Harrison's baby daughter was recently taken ill and was treated at the hospital. Steve Hodkinson also had a personal experience with Alder Hey in 2008 when his daughter had cranio-facial surgery on the neurosurgery ward at the hospital.
Mike Harrison commented "We thank all the staff at Alder Hey who supported us through this traumatic time and for helping our daughter Lucy make a speedy recovery after contracting Meningococcal Meningitis".
Alder Hey is the busiest children's hospital in the UK caring for over 270,000 young patients each year. Alder Hey Children's Charity raises funds to support the hospital's pioneering work and aims to improve the quality of life for their patients and through their innovations and research, the quality of life for children across the world.
Mike Harrison was due to take part in the cycling challenge but because of the change of event and activities, can no longer take part. He instead will be taking part in another challenge later in the year (TBC) to raise funds for Ronald McDonald Family House, based at Alder Hey hospital, which gives families free accommodation so they can stay close to their child while in hospital. The house relies entirely on charitable donations, which is why Mike has chosen to also raise funds for this great charity.
