Social isolation can increase the risk of mortality by almost 50%, even after underlying health conditions are accounted for. With daily phone calls we build trust and meaningful relationships to combat loneliness:"It makes my day to feel wanted." Jim, 75."Because of my Good Morning Calls I feel I am in the world." Irene, 85. "When the phone rings and they say 'hello', it is a better tonic right away than all the tablets I swallow." Ann, 86.We also alert a next of kin/ police when someone fails to answer our Good Morning Call. "You saved my life when you sent help that day - literally." Janet, 77. "My legs have collapsed before but I don't worry about that now because when I need help you're always there. It's very reassuring. The befrienders are my link to the outside world." Alan, 72.
I am walking the Kilt Walk to raise funds for my mums work. This service is there to make sure the elderly have someone to chat too and befriend. Everyone should have someone to talk to :)
Please visit the Good Morning Service for more information! Big thank you to anyone who donates !
Wish me luck!!
