Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This will be my third challenge to raise money for the Moorfields Eye Charity, having previously completed the Brighton Marathon (2014) and Summited Kilimanjaro (2016). The Moorfields Eye Charity supports the Moorfields Eye hospital in raising money for research and promoting awareness of sight conditions and support for those suffering with these conditions.
The condition I suffer from is called Stargadt's disease and is a rare inherited form of macular degeneration that affects people in their twenties, thirties or younger, and with no cure, it is just a matter of time (however long that will be) that the world will be a darker place for some. However, whilst I still have enough sight to attempt these challenges, my next attempt will be to trek to Everest Base Camp in late April/early May 2019. This will take 14 days to complete and I am lucky enough to be accompanied on this adventure by three good friends. I have started my training 15 weeks in advance of departure and so far so good!
The aim is to run/walk three times a week, with my long run increasing over time. To ensure that I am progressing each week, I have set some mini challenges along the way! I will be attempting the Brighton half marathon on 24th February (6 weeks away) and also hoping to summit Snowdonia on 23rd Feb at midnight (10 weeks away). In order to achieve all these, I will need to also change my diet and social life (short term) in order to make sure I am injury free and of a good standard of fitness to undertake the challenge! Wish me luck!
Any donations you kindly make go directly to the charity - I have paid for my holiday separately, so please don't think you are funding my round the world travels!!!! Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity - it is very much appreciated!
Love Hails xx
