Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page
Having worked for the NHS for over 13 years now I’m very familiar with patient pathways . In November 2016 my dear Grandad was put on an end of life pathway this was something I had never had to experience before , and was single handily the worst thing Iv ever been through. As his family after lots of deep and difficult discussions with the doctors we decided the kindest thing and the only option was to let him go. I don’t believe I will ever get over the 2 weeks that followed , but I do know that we wouldn’t have been able to have given him the most dignified end to his life if it hadn’t been for the Victoria ward and it’s amazing staff at the friary hospital in RIchmond. We transferred Grandad back to his beloved home town in Richmond a huge comfort in itself to have him “home” in the town he adored and from the minute he arrived at the ward we all felt a hug sense of relief . The staff were there to meet us and discuss with us how he would spend the last few days of his life . I can’t put in to words how amazing the staff on the ward are. They allowed him to pass away , pain free and maintained his dignity until the very last second. They were a huge comfort to myself and our entire family throughout and prepared us for every step of the way . We as a family can not thank them enough and this year I am running the great north run to raise money for the ward , I hope you will all support me to do this as we never know when / who will need them next.
