Story
Since a young girl, I have always wanted to run a marathon and raise money for a special cause. In April 2016, this is finally going to happen.
I am raising money for Tinnitus, a condition a lot of people initially don't know much about (including me).
Tinnitus is defined as a noise in the head or ears which has no external source, known cause, or "current cure". 10% of UK adults have tinnitus, with one in ten going on to report severe effects on their quality of life including depression, anxiety, stress and sleep deprivation.
People sometimes have trouble understanding the problems tinnitus patients face because they cannot see or hear it themselves.
One of my close family members is currently suffering with Tinnitus, which has affected their life severely. I feel passionate and determined to help experts find a cure for this.
The British Tinnitus Association strives to be the primary source of support for people. They help individuals with tinnitus and the wider public understand more about tinnitus, coping strategies, raising awareness and clinical research. Without your help, the BTA would not be able to carry out its vital role supporting people with tinnitus. In 2015/16, to enable the BTA to continue their work, and develop new work to help more people with tinnitus, they need to raise more than £750,000. I hope with help from the community, that BTA can progress towards that goal.
To help raise even more money, my best friend Emma Gore is also completing the marathon with me and raising money for tinnitus. We both would love to raise as much as possible.
