Hello! Thank you for taking the time to click on my story.

As many of you know, my beautiful mum, Brenda, was diagnosed with both Alzheimer's & Lewy Body Dementia on Monday 18th December 2017. 

Aged only 60, we were of course left broken hearted by this diagnosis. We had known for nearly 2 years by this point that Mum wasn't well but we had been passed from pillar to post because quite simply Mum was deemed too 'young' to have dementia. In those 2 years, amongst various other events, Mum went missing (she was found 4 hours later having walked nearly 7 miles) & ended up at A&E because she was suicidal & kept wanting to end her life. She forgot how to use the phone/oven/till at work & became a shadow of her former self. It was heartbreaking to witness. 

Mum is now living in a fantastic care home in Spalding after it became too much for Dad to care for her full time. Her aggressive & angry outbursts became more frequent & together as a family we made the difficult decision that more intensive care was required. She has settled into the home & her condition remains fairly stable. We are all very aware that the life expectancy for Mum's condition is 5-7 years. We hope that we are making Mum as comfortable as possible and she knows how much we still love & adore her.

On Sunday 6th October 2019, I am planning to walk 7km round Hylands Park in Chelmsford to help raise money for the Alzheimers Society. I can thankfully say I have so much support from my friends who are going to be by my side (or more than likely ahead as I am a slow walker!!) I know I couldn't do this without them so thank you! :-)
