Hayley's Avenue of Volcanoes Trek for Manorlands Hospice

In November 2022 I'll be heading to Ecuador to trek through an avenue of active volcanoes at altitude!
My preparations had been going well (almost too well, see above photo!) but that all stopped when I broke my ankle this Summer and training came to a grinding halt. After lots of sulking and an increase in my daily swear count while I was immobile, I got my act together and decided to use this as a goal to aim for during my recovery. Getting back in the gym and doing whatever I could to build back some strength.
I've found this a hard trek to prepare for mentally and physically, balancing trying to get back up to full fitness following a Summer of zero movement, without overdoing it and re-injuring myself. But I've really pushed myself to get ready in the limited time I've had since the cast came off. It won't be a pain-free experience as my most recent training walks have taught me, but I'm determined to push through and complete this challenge.
I've debated whether to set up a Just Giving page as it's such a challenging time for everyone, but a few people have asked to sponsor me so I'm leaving the page open for anyone who'd like to support me with my trek for Granny Dot. Any contribution means the world to me and Manorlands, who took such amazing care of my Grandma.
She has left an unfillable void in my life and I miss and still think of her everyday, but I hope these challenges will continue to make her proud and give me a way to honour her memory.
