Hayley McKinney is raising money for Alder Hey Children's Charity

Alder Hey Children's Charity takes on Big Jump 2026.

Story

Hello,

Most of you already know how important Alder Hey Children’s Hospital is to me and my family - but for those who don’t, here’s why.

My little sister Chloe was born in 1997 with severe heart defects, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and other complex needs. Doctors said she’d be lucky to see her third birthday - yet this August, she turned 28. That’s thanks to her strength, and to the incredible care she’s had at Alder Hey.

Alder Hey also saved my life. When I was six, I needed emergency surgery to remove a kidney that had never worked. Seventeen weeks in hospital later, I walked out healthy and haven’t looked back.

In 2011, the hospital saved Chloe again when she went into organ failure after a bacterial infection slowly shut her organs down. They pulled her through what we were told may be “game over.”

Alder Hey means everything to us. But many don’t realise it relies heavily on charitable donations to keep providing life-saving care and world-leading research for children and their families.

For our family, thank you will never be enough. So, in May 2026, I’ll be jumping out of a plane at 11,000ft (yes, really!) to raise vital funds for the hospital that has given us so much.

Please donate whatever you can - every penny helps Alder Hey continue saving lives like Chloe’s and mine. ❤️
